Ragauskas Named One of the Most Cited Researchers

When peers cite a faculty member’s research, it’s a solid indication of the respect they have attained in their field.

Arthur Ragauskas.Clarivate Analytics annually calculates the world’s most cited researchers, and the 2018 list features three faculty from the Tickle College of Engineering. Those selected from the college this year are:

  • Art J. Ragauskas, UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair for Biorefining; his work deals with bioenergy, biofuels, and green chemical engineering.
  • Terry C. Hazen, UT-Oak Ridge National Laboratory Governor’s Chair for Environmental Biotechnology; he researches microbial ecology, water health, bioenergy, and the environment.
  • David Mandrus, Jerry and Kay Henry Endowed Professor in materials science and engineering; he leads a group focused on discovering and characterizing new quantum materials.

“Publications and citations are a crucial component of elevating UT’s national and global research visibility,” said Robert Nobles, interim vice chancellor for research. “To have our faculty listed as world leaders emphasizes our position as a research-intensive university and continues the legacy of excellence for which UT is known.”

While the methodology Clarivate uses is fairly complex, it results in a list of the top 1 percent of researchers in a given field.
