Bamin Khomami, the Granger and Beaman Distinguished University Professor in the UT Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE), is being honored with a 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where he received his MS (’85) and PhD (’87) in chemical engineering. The award will be presented to Khomami during the Graduate and Alumni Awards Ceremony on October 20 at the Levis Faculty Center in Urbana, Ill.

Khomami was selected for the award in recognition of his scholarly accomplishments—in the fields of polymer dynamics, transport, and simulations at both molecular and continuum levels—and his outstanding leadership as the department head of CBE from 2006-2022.

The UIUC Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering started the Distinguished Alumni Award program in 2019 to honor their most accomplished graduates for outstanding professional and technical achievements, dedication to their department, and service to society.
