The Department of Energy Office of Science recently highlighted research from Ferguson Faculty Fellow in Chemical Engineering Cong Trinh on its website.
Trinh’s research examined how Yarrowia lipolytica strengthens its membranes and produced the most ionic liquid (IL) tolerant microorganism reported to date as a result. These insights will be critical to developing microbes that can directly convert plant biomass treated with ILs into biofuels and biochemicals.
