Self-assembling multiblock copolymers with a partially sulfonated midblock show promise as membranes in proton-exchange fuel cells, flow batteries and water purification modules. This study by Gila Stein’s research group identified critical processing parameters that control the nanoscale structure and related macroscale properties in these materials. These findings will aid in the development of block copolymer membranes with desirable transport and mechanical properties.
