Professor Brian Edwards

Professor Brian Edwards will use time on sabbatical this fall semester to pursue research in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics and thermodynamics of soft matter materials.

His sabbatical studies at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware will lay the foundation for an upcoming update of his book Thermodynamics of Flowing Systems, coauthored with Professor Antony Beris, to provide a comprehensive overview of this burgeoning field.

The updated edition will gather numerous critical refinements and developments that have been published during the 30 years since the original publication—collating these advances into a single, definitive, contemporary treatise on this extensive and highly practical field and creating a platform for wider dissemination.
