Crystallization Modes of Poly(3-dodecylthiophene)-Based Block Copolymers Depend on Regioregularity and Morphology

Cross-sectional TEM image. P2VP domains were selectively stained dark by exposure to iodine vapor. The scale bars are 200 nm.

Gila Stein’s lab works with self-assembling block copolymers that contain ionic or semiconductive segments. These materials combine the mechanical properties of commodity polymers (plastics) with the functionality of more “exotic” chemistries that transport ions and charges, which is promising for applications in “clean energy” devices (fuel cells, solar cells).
