Advincula Inducted into AIMBE College of Fellows

Rigoberto “Gobet” Advincula, the University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge National Laboratory Governor’s Chair of Advanced and Nanostructured Materials, was recently inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering’s College of Fellows.

Becoming an AIMBE Fellow

Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to medical and biological engineers, comprising the top two percent of engineers in these fields. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering and medicine, research, or education” and to “pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.”

Advincula was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellow for “advanced biomaterials, anti-microbial graphene materials, non-biofouling surfaces and coatings, and surface plasmon resonance, biosensing.”

“AIMBE and the College of Fellows are at the heart of the biomedical engineering profession. It is a special honor for me to be counted among the prestigious Fellows and their contribution to science and engineering,” Advincula said. “I hope to contribute more to the field and the healthcare of our society”.

A formal induction ceremony was held during the AIMBE Annual Event at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia on March 25, 2024. Advincula was inducted along with 162 colleagues in the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2024.
